CITIZENS ADVICE SCOTLAND – EU SETTLEMENT SCHEME When the UK left the EU,  freedom of movement between countries ceased and all EU, EEA or Swiss citizens living in the UK before 1st January 2021 were required to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme before 30th June 2021 to allow them to continue to live, work and study in the UK.

Citizens Advice Scotland is very concerned that there are many people, particularly older people who have lived in this country for many years, and young children who have not made an application.  It is still possible to make a late application and the Citizens Advice network in Scotland is there to help.  They can offer free, confidential and impartial advice and support from a team of specialist advisers and solicitors. Anyone who needs support can call their national helpline specific to EU citizens on 0800 916 9847.

They have a main concern in that there are many older people, particularly those that came to live here shortly after the Second World War, that do not realise that they too need to apply.  Many of them will not have any documentation and some will struggle with the bureaucracy involved in making an application as it is an online process.  They emphasise that they are here to help with free, confidential and impartial advice and support.

Transgender and transgender ideology has been in the news recently. It is a subject that needs to be reflected on by all, especially by parents with children. Looking up the following on Youtube will stimulate reflection:

Reconnecting with parishioners for Mass: Now that our society is opening up after such a long time of isolation due to the pandemic I would like to encourage those parishioners who have so far been reluctant to come for Mass to think seriously about doing so. We have here a very safe set up in the hall – social distancing, very good ventilation, hand and chair sanitizing. All who attend are still expected to wear a mask. We all need to join the community in prayer and we need the blessing of receiving the Lord in Communion – something we cannot do over the Internet!.

Religious Freedom in the World Report 2021

ACN’s The Religious Freedom in the World Report 2021 found that violations of religious freedom occur in almost one third of the world’s countries (62 out of 196), many of them the most populous nations such as China, India and Pakistan. It has also found that, over the past two years, oppression against vulnerable faith communities has increased in all but one of the 26 countries listed.
